Gear: My philosophy of gear goes something like this: “It’s not about the lightest gear or the most expensive gear.” It’s all about what works best for you. I have tried to make my own gear light, but there are folks out there who go way lighter than I do. Then again I have a friend who carried three cameras on the PCT and made miles as good as anyone out there, so in that case maybe it doesn’t matter.

“One Ting” (or one thing) Do at least one thing to improve the trail everyday. For instance: Pick up trash. Remove a branch. Move a rock off the trail. Take old shoes out of trees. If you see a trail crew, talk to them. Tell them you appreciate their hard work. Offer a hand if you have time.
